My family and I enjoy the produce that friends have shared with us from their gardens. I have thoroughly appreciated the blueberries from the bushes in our backyard that a previous owner planted. So, while I myself am not a gardener, I have benefited from the work of others.
How sad it would be for someone to go to all the work of tilling the ground, planting, watering and weeding so that the plants could grow, but then not take the time to actually harvest the food. Without the harvest, all the energy and time invested would simply be wasted. In Matthew 9:37, 38, Jesus told the disciples that other people had planted the seeds of the gospel. It was now their job to spiritually “harvest” by simply extending to people the invitation to follow Jesus.
